Your Health Sciences Edge

Success in healthcare education is about having a plan, knowing your resources, and getting the right guidance at the right time.

At Lawrence Technological University’s College of Health Sciences, students have access to comprehensive advising and academic coaching designed to support them from orientation through graduation.

CoHS advising is built around personalized support, helping students navigate academic requirements while preparing for demanding healthcare careers.

“Students sometimes wait until they feel overwhelmed to reach out,” CoHS Academic Advisor Lisa Henry said. “But the best time to meet with an advisor is before you hit that point. That is when we can really help students stay ahead.”

Henry brings a strong foundation in student development, having begun her career supporting incoming engineering students as they transitioned into rigorous academic programs. She now guides health sciences students with a focus on relationship-building, early intervention and resilience, helping them navigate demanding coursework while balancing personal well-being. Her advising approach blends empathy with accountability, reinforcing the program’s commitment to student success from day one through graduation.

A Clear Academic Roadmap

Henry helps CoHS students on degree planning, course selection, registration preparation, and understanding academic policies and progress requirements. The goal is simple: remove confusion, reduce stress, and help students stay on the most efficient path toward graduation.

“Once students see the full layout of their program, everything becomes more manageable,” Henry said. “They are not just taking classes, they are building a path toward a career.”

Advising gives students clarity and confidence, especially in a field where every semester matters.

Coaching That Strengthens Skills and Habits

Academic coaching takes support a step further, helping students build the skills that turn effort into performance. CoHS coaching includes strategies for time management, organization, test preparation, goal setting, and study techniques that work for science-heavy coursework.

“Healthcare students are juggling a lot,” Henry said. “Coaching helps them develop routines that keep them steady, focused, and ready for the next challenge.”

These are not short-term fixes. They are habits that translate directly into clinical environments and professional expectations.

Support Beyond the Classroom

CoHS advising also connects students to the broader support network available across campus. Students can be referred to tutoring, library resources, accessibility services, and student wellness support to strengthen both academic success and overall well-being.

“Sometimes students just need to know what resources exist and how to access them,” Henry said. “Once they have that support system, everything changes.”

Planning for What Comes Next

Henry also prepares students for what comes after graduation. They receive support exploring career goals, evaluating professional pathways, and identifying opportunities for continuing education.

“We help students connect today’s decisions to tomorrow’s opportunities,” Henry said. “It is not just about finishing a degree. It is about building a future.”

A Partnership Built for Success

Henry encourages students to meet regularly. That ongoing relationship creates accountability, strengthens progress, and ensures students feel supported every step of the way.

“Advising works best when it is consistent,” she said. “When students check in regularly, we can help them stay on track, stay motivated, and keep moving forward.”
