United Way grant to fund 100 scholarships to LTU summer STEAM camps

SOUTHFIELD—Lawrence Technological University has received a United Way grant to fund 100 full scholarships to its summer science, technology, and design camps for students from eight different communities in Oakland County.

Students who live in Hazel Park, Holly Township, Keego Harbor, Madison Heights, Oak Park, Pontiac, Southfield, or Walled Lake can use the code “Oakland” at checkout for the full scholarship, a value of up to $950. The registration deadline is June 10.

LTU offers more than 20 camps for students entering 10th, 11th, and 12th grades in one-week sessions running July 10-14, July 17-21, July 24-28, and July 31-Aug. 4. Topics include 3D printing, architecture and design, artificial intelligence, application development, automotive engineering, biochemistry, biomedical engineering, biotechnology, computer engineering, computer networking, construction engineering, cybersecurity, digital media production, electrical engineering, entrepreneurship, Esports, game design, graphic design, industrial design, landscape design, psychology, robotics, sustainability, and transportation design. There are options for both day camp and residential camp, where students will live during their camp week in LTU residence halls.

Use Your Cell Phone as a Document Camera in Zoom

  • Download the mobile Zoom app (either App Store or Google Play)
  • Have your phone plugged in
  • Set up video stand phone holder

Log in and start your Zoom session with participants

From Phone

  • Start the Zoom session on your phone app (suggest setting your phone to “Do not disturb” since your phone screen will be seen in Zoom)
  • Type in the Meeting ID and Join
  • Do not use phone audio option to avoid feedback
  • Select “share content” and “screen” to share your cell phone’s screen in your Zoom session
  • Select “start broadcast” from Zoom app. The home screen of your cell phone is now being shared with your participants.

To use your cell phone as a makeshift document camera

  • Open (swipe to switch apps) and select the camera app on your phone
  • Start in photo mode and aim the camera at whatever materials you would like to share
  • This is where you will have to position what you want to share to get the best view – but you will see ‘how you are doing’ in the main Zoom session.
