Donley Award Winner JaJuan Jones (BSBME’24) Goes Out of His Way for Others

To say JaJuan Jones is a familiar face on campus is an understatement.

“The entire LTU body knows him,” said his roommate, Kieran Malachino.

With good reason, too. JaJuan’s student leadership has been nothing less than impressive: he has served as president for Black Student Union, Student Philanthropy Council and Student Government.

As a leader, his peers said he goes out of his way to make sure students are “comfortable and happy.” Descriptions of JaJuan range from “the most caring, driven person I’ve ever met” to truthful, hard-working, loyal, committed and professional. Someone who is “always looking for the best in everyone.”

As a student-employee in the Field House, he is widely regarded as a “key worker and trusted staff member” and has also worked with the Admissions department as a tour guide. He used his background as a biomedical engineering major to gain off-campus employment in an urgent care facility and with Ascension Healthcare.

His interest in athletics extends to women’s lacrosse where he served as the assistant coach, and in his volunteer work with the men’s soccer team. JaJuan was also selected to be a presenter at the annual Student Athlete Leadership Team ESPY awards in 2023.

He has also been involved with First Year Ignite, where he was cited for his talents integrating freshmen on campus, particularly international students. JaJuan shows his caring, empathetic nature in other ways, too, donating his time to a food pantry at a local church. His care for others was put to good use two years ago as a camp counselor in LTU’s Summer Camps program. Last year he was the manager.

JaJuan’s career interests lean toward the medical field where he plans to pursue a career as a physician assistant.
