Ray Award Honoree: LTU’s Solid Foundation Inspires Jami Moyer to Give Back

Jami Moyer never forgot the impact of her LTU education. And that makes it easier to give back to the university that offered so much.

“I absolutely would not have the job I’ve had, nor the career path had I not gone to LTU,” said Jami, a senior sales consultant for Steelcase, Inc. in Grand Rapids.

LTU’s Detroit-area location gave her plenty of opportunities to see if she like her field of study – thanks to nearby jobs and internships. Plus – she thrived under LTU’s hands-on approach to learning from professors who worked in “some of the top architecture firms” in the area.

“Being able to focus on practice vs. just the theory part of education puts you in a much better place for career opportunities later on,” said the 2000 interior architecture grad.

In 2013, Jami and her husband, Travis Sage, endowed a scholarship for LTU students studying architecture and design; Travis also graduated from LTU, earning undergraduate and graduate degrees in architecture.

“I was able to attend Lawrence Tech because of a full tuition scholarship I was awarded. I was always aware that this scholarship positioned me for the education I got,” said Jami. “Once we were able to reciprocate, I wanted to make sure other students-in-need would have access to the same financial help I had.”

Jami and Travis live in Grand Rapids with their 15-year-old son, Asher.
