SOPREMA

SOPREMA established its scholarship program as a commitment to the continued success and growth of our industry by investing in the next generation dedicated to the building envelope. The SOPREMA Scholarship assists undergraduate and graduate students pursuing degrees in architecture, engineering, construction management or a similar field at an accredited four-year college or university.

 

» Eligibility

Applicants to the SOPREMA Scholarship Program must be:

  • High school seniors, or graduates, or current postsecondary undergraduate or graduate students, pursuing a degree in architecture, engineering, construction management or a similar field*.
    *Similar field must be applicable to those seeking a career related to the building envelope (i.e. roofing, wall systems, below grade waterproofing, etc.). Exceptions will be approved by SOPREMA.
  • Planning to enroll in full-time undergraduate or graduate study at an accredited four-year college or university for the entire 2023-2024 to 2025-2026 academic year.
  • SOPREMA employees and their family members are ineligible.

Submission must include the following to be considered a complete application:

  • Essay
  • Two instructor references
  • An unofficial transcript

The essay is a two-part question, and answers should be 1000 words or more or will be automatically disqualified:

  • What has inspired you to join the construction industry?
  • What do you believe could be done to help the construction industry become more sustainable?
  • Please give details about yourself in the essay.

Use Your Cell Phone as a Document Camera in Zoom

  • What you will need to have and do
  • Download the mobile Zoom app (either App Store or Google Play)
  • Have your phone plugged in
  • Set up video stand phone holder

From Computer

Log in and start your Zoom session with participants

From Phone

  • Start the Zoom session on your phone app (suggest setting your phone to “Do not disturb” since your phone screen will be seen in Zoom)
  • Type in the Meeting ID and Join
  • Do not use phone audio option to avoid feedback
  • Select “share content” and “screen” to share your cell phone’s screen in your Zoom session
  • Select “start broadcast” from Zoom app. The home screen of your cell phone is now being shared with your participants.

To use your cell phone as a makeshift document camera

  • Open (swipe to switch apps) and select the camera app on your phone
  • Start in photo mode and aim the camera at whatever materials you would like to share
  • This is where you will have to position what you want to share to get the best view – but you will see ‘how you are doing’ in the main Zoom session.
