Preservation Foundation of Palm Beach (Jerry A Tishman Scholarship)

The Preservation Foundation is proud to offer a generous scholarship opportunity available to students who study architecture and have an interest in historic preservation. The scholarship was established as the result of a generous bequest from and is named in honor of, Jerry A. Tishman, Preservation Foundation member, and preservation advocate. The scholarship fund will provide architecture students with funds to help support their education costs during the school year and for a summer program.

For assistance with annual tuition, the chosen graduate student, or an undergraduate student entering their fourth or fifth year in a combined bachelors/masters program, should be enrolled in a school of architecture and be in good academic standing. The student will receive an award of $10,000 made out to their school of choice.

Scholarship criteria:

  • The scholarship will be presented to a student enrolled in an architecture school.
  • The chosen student must be a graduate architecture student or entering their fourth or fifth year if they are in a combined bachelors/masters architectural program.
  • The chosen student will share with the Preservation Foundation their final project or thesis upon completion so that a summary may be published within their newsletter publications or, if applicable, presented at the Foundation’s annual Historic Properties Workshop.

Application Requirements:

  • Undergraduate and Graduate Transcripts (Unofficial or Official)
  • Two Letters of Recommendation (may be included or sent directly to the Foundation)
  • Resume and Portfolio
  • Proposed Final Graduate Project (if applicable) Personal statement (no more than 500 words, double-spaced) answering the following questions:
    • What local building do you find to be most architecturally inspiring? Explain.
    • Do you believe that historic preservation can be utilized as a positive tool for urban development? Why or why not?
    • What are your career goals as an architect? Where do you see yourself professionally in ten years?

Use Your Cell Phone as a Document Camera in Zoom

  • What you will need to have and do
  • Download the mobile Zoom app (either App Store or Google Play)
  • Have your phone plugged in
  • Set up video stand phone holder

From Computer

Log in and start your Zoom session with participants

From Phone

  • Start the Zoom session on your phone app (suggest setting your phone to “Do not disturb” since your phone screen will be seen in Zoom)
  • Type in the Meeting ID and Join
  • Do not use phone audio option to avoid feedback
  • Select “share content” and “screen” to share your cell phone’s screen in your Zoom session
  • Select “start broadcast” from Zoom app. The home screen of your cell phone is now being shared with your participants.

To use your cell phone as a makeshift document camera

  • Open (swipe to switch apps) and select the camera app on your phone
  • Start in photo mode and aim the camera at whatever materials you would like to share
  • This is where you will have to position what you want to share to get the best view – but you will see ‘how you are doing’ in the main Zoom session.
