SOUTHFIELD—Victor Saroki, president of Saroki Architecture in Birmingham, has been elected Chair of the Board of Trustees at Lawrence Technological University in Southfield.
Saroki will succeed Dr. Douglas E. Ebert, who chaired the board for 10 years during a time of significant growth. His tenure led to the addition of new dormitories, the vast expansion of LTU’s sports programs, and included the launch of The College of Health Sciences.
“It has been an honor to serve and lead the Board of Trustees through a time of great challenge in the world of higher education, including two LTU presidencies, the launch of a fifth college, and the continuing transformation of LTU to a residential university,” Ebert said. “Victor’s strong ties to Lawrence Tech and his strong professional and community experience will continue to carry the university forward, allowing us to realize our vision to be the university that transforms lives.”
Saroki, a Lawrence Technological University alumnus, has served on the LTU Board of Trustees since 2008. He chaired the 2021 Presidential Search Committee that led to the hiring of current LTU president, Dr. Tarek Sobh.
“I am truly honored to take on this role and do so at a crucial time as Lawrence Technological University is poised to become the university of the future,” Saroki said. “I am pleased to work alongside Dr. Tarek Sobh to guide us forward with a sharp focus on revolutionary research and creative practices, industry immersion, and professional excellence.”
Saroki established his own architecture and interiors firm in 1983 and has since earned more than 80 design awards, including the AIA Michigan Gold Medal in 2015, the AIA Detroit Gold Medal in 2010, and the AIA Michigan Firm of the Year in 2007. As president of Saroki Architecture, he oversees a wide array of projects for retail, hospitality, mixed-use, multiple and custom residential clients. Notable locations—including the Royal Park Hotel, Birmingham Theater, ABC Harley-Davidson and Plum Markets—are among recent work.
Saroki earned bachelor’s degrees in science and architecture from LTU, as well as an honorary Doctorate of Architecture in 2008. He received LTU’s Distinguished Architecture Alumni Award in 1998 and was inducted into the AIA College of Fellows two years later. In 2000, Saroki was named as the Birmingham Bloomfield Chamber’s Business Person of the Year. He is past president of AIA Michigan and AIA Detroit and served on the Board of Directors for the Chaldean Community Cultural Center.
Saroki was elected to his new role as chair during a meeting Feb. 22, 2024.
“As we look to the years ahead, Victor Saroki is prepared to usher along the evolution of our technologically-eminent university as we establish a much-needed pipeline to industry through our degree programs, innovative K-12 initiatives and professional development certifications,” Sobh said. “We are well-positioned for the future. I want to thank Dr. Ebert for his years of dedicated service and for the enduring vision he set forth for us to continue.”
Ebert will remain a board member through the transition, set to take effect on July 1, 2024. His legacy will be known for the addition of a fifth college at LTU, The College of Health Sciences; the dedication of the Lloyd E. Reuss and Edward Donley residence halls; the construction of East Residence Hall; the 2016 opening of the Alfred Taubman Engineering, Architecture and Life Sciences Complex, Home of the Marburger STEM Center, among other accomplishments.
