University Research Scholarship Council

The University Research and Scholarship Council (URSC) supports the interdisciplinary and impactful research and scholarship performed by faculty and students within Lawrence Technological University. The URSC provides support for grant and fellowship identification and proposal writing, logistical assistance to project management, and mentorship in scholarship, tenure, and promotion. The URSC works jointly with the Office of Sponsored Research and Institutional Grants and advises the VP of Research on matters of research excellence.

The URSC upholds a steadfast commitment to the principles of diversity, equity, and inclusion, which make the University and broader scholarship communities intellectually richer, more innovative, more creative, and more productive.

» Mission

  1. To advance the research and scholarly mission of Lawrence Technological University by fostering a culture of research excellence, promoting opportunities for faculty to obtain grant and fellowship funding, and facilitating innovative, collaborative, and student-focused projects.
  2. To support faculty in their unique research and scholarship activities by providing professional mentorship, assistance in identification of grant, fellowship, and partnership opportunities, support in grant-writing and project management, and promotion and advocacy of faculty scholarship within LTU and to the broader LTU community.
  3. To advise on the distribution of resources, such as seed grant awards and facility utilization, and to identify current and potential areas of research strength for promotion, marketing, and recruitment.
  4. To provide faculty with mentorship and support in navigating the expectations for research and discipline-specific scholarship required for obtaining tenure and promotion, and to provide expert, discipline-specific, and fairness-minded assistance to mid-tenure, tenure, and promotion committees.
  5. To uphold a steadfast commitment to the principles of diversity, equity, and inclusion, which make the University and broader scholarship communities intellectually richer, more innovative, more creative, and more productive.

» LTU Research and Grant Incentive Program

Lawrence Technological University is committed to promoting basic and applied research grant and contract opportunities for faculty. The goal of the LTU Research and Grant Incentive program is to support a faculty member’s research agenda and to facilitate the preparation and submission of external grant or contract proposals.
Full-time tenure-track faculty are invited to submit applications. Selected faculty will be awarded University support on teaching buyout of one course (3 credit hours) to support proposal writing and submittal. The program of 2023-2024 will support 12-16 faculty.

Program eligibility:

Completed application by tenure-track applicant that outlines the proposal concept, sponsored funding announcement, and submittal deadline.

  • Applicant must have a full proposal drafted by the end of the support-awarded semester (May 31st or December 31st). Submission of a competitive grant proposal to external funding agencies is expected within 8 months of the award
  • Applicant must be the lead-PI.
  • Not eligible: support for pre-proposals and letters of intent, non-competitive renewals.
Expected Outcomes:

A draft full proposal is expected to be completed by the end of the support-awarded semester (May 31st or December 31st). The expected outcome of this program is a competitive, submitted grant or contract proposal within 8 months subsequent to the Research and Grant Incentive Award.

Use Your Cell Phone as a Document Camera in Zoom

  • What you will need to have and do
  • Download the mobile Zoom app (either App Store or Google Play)
  • Have your phone plugged in
  • Set up video stand phone holder

From Computer

Log in and start your Zoom session with participants

From Phone

  • Start the Zoom session on your phone app (suggest setting your phone to “Do not disturb” since your phone screen will be seen in Zoom)
  • Type in the Meeting ID and Join
  • Do not use phone audio option to avoid feedback
  • Select “share content” and “screen” to share your cell phone’s screen in your Zoom session
  • Select “start broadcast” from Zoom app. The home screen of your cell phone is now being shared with your participants.

To use your cell phone as a makeshift document camera

  • Open (swipe to switch apps) and select the camera app on your phone
  • Start in photo mode and aim the camera at whatever materials you would like to share
  • This is where you will have to position what you want to share to get the best view – but you will see ‘how you are doing’ in the main Zoom session.
