Healthy Aging Innovation Center

The Healthy Aging Innovation Center (HAIC) supplies information, knowledge and resources to senior service providers about innovations that strengthen Michigan’s seniors’ ability to age at home.

» Why the HAIC?

Access to care for seniors in the United States is in serious jeopardy.

  • 70 million U.S. seniors will only have 1.7 million licensed beds
  • Only 13% of seniors can afford to stay in a facility
  • Family caregiver availability is expected to drop by 43% by 2030
  • Only 14% of older adults can afford professional in-home care needed
  • There is an expected 3.2 million 2026 healthcare worker shortage

Meanwhile, seniors want, and are able, to age at home.

  • 90% of seniors want to age at home
  • 80% of older people want things to help them age at home
  • 49% of seniors are willing to modify their homes to age there
  • “Baby Boomers” needing care are tech-savvy to adopt innovations
  • The “Aging in Place” market place is growing 13% annually

The HAIC fills a critical need by supplying information, knowledge and resources to senior service providers about innovations that strengthen Michigan’s seniors’ ability to age at home.
