Electric Guitar Synthesizer

Engineering
Electrical + Computer Engineering
Student Project

The guitar synthesizer project was built from scratch. This guitar is able to produce four notes by using certain hardware and a Texas Instruments C-Series ARM Cortex micro-controller.

It has four strings with four force sensitive resistors (FSR)’s that react as an audio volume control sensor for each individual string. Strings are made by resistive potentiometers, and notes for audio volume control are controlled by square FSRs.

There are two different modes on the guitar: “noob mode,” where the player only needs to use the strings to produce the notes, and “expert mode,” which requires the player to use both strings and FSRs to release not only the note but also the volume of that certain note. The guitar also has an option to change the duty cycle of the pulse width modulated (PWM) signal as a “phaser” effect. A whammy bar was also integrated to be able to change the pitch of the note.
