Research

Research and development of new approaches to alternative energy engineering is available to Lawrence Tech students, with a primary goal of  providing clean energy sources and green solutions for the world’s energy needs.

Students have access to a state-of-the-art Alternative Energy Engineering laboratory that features:

  • A 10 kW photovoltaic (PV) grid-tied system of the roof of the Engineering building high-bay area.
  • A small wind turbine that charges batteries in the alternative energy engineering laboratory.
  • Biodiesel production capabilities, as well as oxygen-bomb calorimetry test equipment to measure energy content of the liquid biofuels produced in the lab.
  • Low-velocity wind tunnel that allows for the testing of airfoil designs.
