Shaping the Future of Energy Systems

The world is looking for engineers who can power the future. Are you ready to be one of them? LTU’s Graduate Certificate in Energy Engineering isn’t just about learning energy systems, it’s about becoming part of a global transformation.

This 18-credit program includes three core courses and three electives, offering flexibility to tailor your studies to your career goals. Topics cover a broad range of energy systems, including alternative (renewable) energy, fossil fuels, and nuclear energy. Open to professionals with a BS in Engineering or related Natural Sciences, this certificate is an ideal way to power up your expertise and advance your career in energy engineering.

Why LTU?
  • Gain expertise in traditional and emerging energy systems
  • Use program courses as technical electives for an undergraduate degree or as credits toward a Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Learn from faculty with real-world experience

Admission Requirements

To be admitted to the Graduate Certificate in Energy Engineering program requires the applicant to have already earned a Bachelor of Science degree in engineering or to have earned a Bachelor of Science in chemistry or physics with an overall GPA of 3.0 or better for their undergraduate degree. Students with related degrees may be admitted to the Graduate Certificate in Energy Engineering program as long as they meet all course prerequisites. A grade of B or better is required in all make-up and prerequisite courses for this program. All students enrolled in the Certificate in Energy Engineering core or elective courses must earn a grade of B or better in all courses in this program. Any student not complying with minimum grade requirements will prompt a review of that student’s academic standing and may result in his or her dismissal from the program.

The courses offered in this program are all College of Engineering technical electives and can typically be used as technical electives in the pursuit of an undergraduate Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering or in Electrical and Computer Engineering, and most of the 5000-level courses may be used towards a Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering degree.

All students enrolled in the Certificate in Energy Engineering core or elective courses must earn a grade of “B” or better in all courses in this program. Any student not complying with minimum grade requirements will prompt a review of that student’s academic standing and may result in their dismissal from the program.

Professionals who hold a BS degree in Engineering or the Natural Sciences (primarily chemistry or physics) are eligible to enroll in the Graduate Certificate in Energy Engineering program.

Please note that this is a graduate certificate (not a degree). The courses offered in this program, however, are all College of Engineering technical electives and can typically be used as technical electives in the pursuit of an undergraduate BS in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering, and most of the 5000 level courses may be used towards a MS in Mechanical Engineering degree.

Goals

To educate individuals in Energy Engineering including alternative (renewable) energy sources, traditional (fossil fuel) energy sources, nuclear energy, energy management and conservation.

To help meet global needs with energy educated engineers who can address the issues related to energy and the supply and demand balance of global fossil fuel resources and to transition the economy to more environmentally friendly energy systems.

Apply

All potential students must apply to LTU for admission to the Certificate in Energy Engineering program and will be admitted only after review and approval from the Energy Engineering Program Director.

Students enrolled in the Certificate in Energy Engineering program must formally petition to the LTU Office of the Registrar to receive their certificate upon completing the program. Contact the LTU Office of the Registrar for details regarding petitioning.

Use Your Cell Phone as a Document Camera in Zoom

  • What you will need to have and do
  • Download the mobile Zoom app (either App Store or Google Play)
  • Have your phone plugged in
  • Set up video stand phone holder

From Computer

Log in and start your Zoom session with participants

From Phone

  • Start the Zoom session on your phone app (suggest setting your phone to “Do not disturb” since your phone screen will be seen in Zoom)
  • Type in the Meeting ID and Join
  • Do not use phone audio option to avoid feedback
  • Select “share content” and “screen” to share your cell phone’s screen in your Zoom session
  • Select “start broadcast” from Zoom app. The home screen of your cell phone is now being shared with your participants.

To use your cell phone as a makeshift document camera

  • Open (swipe to switch apps) and select the camera app on your phone
  • Start in photo mode and aim the camera at whatever materials you would like to share
  • This is where you will have to position what you want to share to get the best view – but you will see ‘how you are doing’ in the main Zoom session.
