May 17 Scholarship Gala at Michigan Central Station

LTU VP Kevin Finn with last year’s emcee, Charlie Langton

Lawrence Technological University’s second Scholarship Gala—themed Innovation Through the Ages—is scheduled for May 17 at the historic Michigan Central Station in Detroit.

The goal of the gala is to support deserving LTU students in need of scholarship assistance. Stories of alumni achievement, faculty impact, and giving back will serve as the backbone of the gala’s program—along with a cocktail hour, seated dinner, silent auction, networking opportunities, and more.

Holding the gala at Michigan Central, a 30-acre technology and cultural hub in Detroit’s Corktown neighborhood, underscores LTU’s innovative education, which aims to prepare students for well-compensated careers in technological fields.

Joe Fadool, president and CEO of automotive and technology supplier BorgWarner and an ‘89 LTU alum, will serve as the gala’s keynote speaker.

In 2023, Fadool spearheaded an initiative to endow a scholarship started by LTU’s oldest fraternity, Phi Kappa Upsilon, about 20 years ago. After Fadool and John Sammut ’88 encouraged their fellow fraternity brothers to contribute to the fund, the scholarship nearly tripled in value—enough to endow the scholarship fund for years to come.

Jerry Crist will be honored in memoriam with the Luminary Award for his impact on LTU students, particularly for his role as the director of LTU’s scholarship program.

Bridget Sanders ’99 recalled the difference Crist made when he offered her a full academic scholarship. “The impact of that scholarship on someone’s life and education is really hard to quantify, but I do know it’s huge.”

Jami Moyer will be honored with the Ray Award for her outstanding advocacy of the University. Moyer graduated in ’00 with a degree in interior architecture. She and her husband, Travis Sage ’00, ‘03, established the Travis Sage and Jami Moyer-Sage Endowed Scholarship in Architecture and Design.

The Donley Awards will also be presented to two graduating students who have demonstrated exceptional leadership, academic excellence, and on-campus involvement throughout their undergraduate careers.
