Mastering the New Rules: Applying Technology for Business Success

Technology is the primary driver of organizational competition.

AI, automation, analytics, and cybersecurity now define how we manage risk, price products, and enhance customer experiences.

At the Lawrence Technological University College of Business and Information Technology (CoBIT), leaders transition from simply adopting tools to achieving strategic alignment.

Successful organizations treat emerging technologies as enterprise-wide capabilities while AI sharpens forecasting

“Technology decisions start with business value to ensure every adoption delivers a meaningful impact,” said Matthew Cole, PhD, dean, CoBIT.

Modern executives lead effectively by understanding how technology influences performance and accountability. This requires a blend of technical awareness and Human Intelligence (HI) to navigate ethical questions and manage cybersecurity. “Leadership today is about asking the right questions to fully grasp the implications of the systems we use,”Cole says.

Disciplined Implementation for Sustainable Results

A durable advantage comes from disciplined implementation and strong governance. Rather than simply automating existing processes, successful leaders rethink workflows to amplify their strategy.

“Technology amplifies the clarity of your strategy,” Cole said. “A clear strategy leads to clear, measurable results.”

Companies that thrive start with a business problem and invest in leadership capability alongside technical talent. They treat technology adoption as a positive change-management opportunity, aligning innovation with organizational mission and values.

Connecting Innovation to Outcomes

LTU embeds these “new rules” into our curriculum by integrating analytics, cybersecurity, and management with strategy and ethics. Our interdisciplinary approach ensures theory and practice work in tandem to develop the whole professional.

“Our goal is to prepare leaders who connect innovation to outcomes with ethics and integrity, as that principled connection is where true value is created,” Cole said.
