STEM Summer Series

The Summer STEM Series (S3) is an exciting, hands-on summer learning experience designed for students entering 7th, 8th, and 9th grade. S3 immerses students in interactive STEM activities that build problem-solving skills, encourage teamwork, and connect learning to real-world, place-based challenges.

Through these experiences, students gain essential STEM knowledge while also developing transferable skills they’ll use in future academic work, collaborative environments, and everyday life.

Powered by the expertise of LTU faculty, staff, and student mentors, the S3 program gives participants access to cutting-edge learning environments—including advanced engineering, environmental, and biological labs, on-campus rainwater gardens, and a variety of innovative instructional spaces. Students are encouraged to explore their own STEM passions while engaging with tools and technologies used by real scientists, designers, and engineers.

Each year, S3 undergoes a rigorous continuous improvement process, incorporating feedback from teachers and students and integrating the latest practices in STEM education and career readiness. This ensures the program remains engaging, relevant, and impactful year after year.

  • Past student projects and activities have included:
  • Watershed management and water sampling
  • Bacteria testing and soil analysis
  • Horticulture and rainwater garden investigations
  • 3D modeling, 3D printing, and laser cutting
  • Computer programming and coding
  • Robotics and autonomous drone navigation
  • …and much more!
