Student Life at Lawrence Technological University actively works to create different events throughout the year for students. Each year, student life hosts a two-day First Year Ignite experience for new freshmen and transfer students. The two days are full of activities and information sessions to expose and help students adjust to campus. Following the First Year Ignite, a week of events to get students excited for the new year is held the first week of classes, where an exciting event is planned for each day. Homecoming at LTU creates a buzz for students and is a hit on campus. In addition to these exciting and noteworthy events, student life also hosts events focusing on Suicide Awareness Month, Women's History Month, Sexual Assault Awareness Month, and more to demonstrate the support and resources available to students. Student life is always creating engaging events for students to help make campus inviting.
In addition to campus-wide events, student life also encompasses additional ways for students to get involved, such as through Greek life, student government, and student organizations!
There are 11 active Greek organizations on campus: five sororities and six fraternities. Every semester, the organizations have two full weeks of recruitment to meet potential students interested in joining their organization. Despite the uniqueness amongst all the sororities and fraternities, they all have a bond with each other that creates a strong Greek community within LTU. Several organizations raise money throughout the year for various scholarship opportunities for first-year students. Every organization has its own philanthropies they support and raise money for through various events and fundraisers. Some of these philanthropies are the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, the Ronald McDonald House, the Special Olympics, RAINN, Big Brothers Big Sisters of America, Extra Life, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Homes for Homeless, and many more. Each year, Greek Life has a tradition of having Greek Week, Song and Skit, and Greek Day where the organizations compete and ultimately win the Greek Day trophy, and rightfully so, bragging rights!
Student government continually works to create a strong relationship with administration to express concerns that students face. This past year, the student government hosted several town hall meetings with the President and Provost to discuss the future of LTU. Every student government e-board has a senate that works on different issues students face and works to make improvements on campus. Several projects the senate and e-board have worked towards are improving safety on campus, meeting with campus dining to provide feedback, and more. Student government also worked together to create an end of year event to celebrate and recognize different student organizations with prestigious awards. They continue to grow and work to make LTU a great place for students.
There are over 40 student organizations and clubs on campus that are a mix of academic, Greek, and student interests. Students are welcome to start an organization or club on campus. Student interest organizations are created to help students find their place on campus and connect with like-minded individuals. Some great examples of such organizations are the Society of Dramatic Arts (SODA), the Sexuality and Gender Alliance (SAGA), Black Student Union (BSU), Infinite Machine, LTU Swing, CRU, and many more! Organizations are able to request money from the student government to host various events on campus.
There are also various academic organizations on campus in addition to the student interest groups. These organizations are a great resource for students who wish to network with other students in their major or college and create relations with professionals in the field. Examples of such organizations are the American Institute of Architecture Students (AIAS), American Society of Heating, Refrigerating, and Air-Conditioning Engineers, the Society of Women Engineers (SWE), and more. These connections not only aid in securing future employment but also building and creating new friendships.
