Champions in Class and Competition: How LTU Athletes Are Succeeding on Every Stage

The LTU men’s basketball team made history this season by securing the first home game in the WHAC Conference Tournament.

Lawrence Technological University’s Blue Devils are scoring big in the classroom, on the court, across every field, and beyond any boundaries.

With an impressive roster of 24 varsity sports and programs ranging from architecture and design to engineering and business, LTU student-athletes are innovating and inspiring. They are not just meeting expectations—they are shattering them.

Nearly 100 of them have earned recognition as NAIA Scholar-Athletes by maintaining rigorous academic standards. To be recognized as an NAIA Scholar-Athlete, a student must not only perform at the highest level in their sport but also maintain a 3.25 GPA and be a full-time student. This dual achievement showcases their dedication to the principle of “student first, athlete second.”

The Accolades Keep Piling Up

Beyond their success in the classroom, the Blue Devils are also winning on the field. Many LTU athletic teams are currently ranked among the best in the nation.

Under Coach Joshua Pickens, the LTU men’s basketball team scored a double-double with 10 players achieving academic honors and recently made history with a thrilling first—securing a home game in the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) Tournament.

Under Coach Jacob Paige, the LTU men’s volleyball team spikes past competitors, currently ranked the number three team in the nation while boasting the highest overall team GPA among all LTU athletic teams. Meanwhile, the LTU women’s bowling team has earned its place at the NAIA National Championships, with five scholars leading the charge on and off the lane. The LTU men’s bowling team is striking gold with a number one ranking by the Intercollegiate Bowling Association, alongside four players earning All-Academic honors.

Overall, LTU student-athletes averaged an impressive GPA of 3.31 across all 24 varsity teams, proving they are pushing past boundaries on the field, in the classroom, and into a brighter future. From early morning practices to late-night study sessions, these athletes do whatever it takes to excel in both their studies and sports.
