Give Them the Edge

On any given day at Lawrence Technological University, a student-athlete might move from a 6 a.m. workout to a lab or lecture and then back to practice before opening a laptop late at night.

It is a demanding routine, built on discipline and persistence. It is also the reality for hundreds of Blue Devils working to succeed in two arenas at once.

Now, a growing community of alumni and supporters is helping tip the balance in their favor.

Through a series of newly established scholarships, LTU Athletics is expanding support for student-athletes, easing financial pressure and allowing them to focus more fully on their education and their sport. These annual funds, created by alumni, coaches, and friends of the university, provide direct, renewable support that makes a difference year after year.

Several scholarships reflect personal connections to LTU and the values that define its community.

The Women’s Soccer Scholarship, established by Andy Richards, supports athletes striving to excel both on the pitch and in the classroom. For men’s soccer, the Aiden Smith Scholarship, created by Will Dyer, builds on LTU’s partnership with Team IMPACT and highlights how athletics can foster inclusion, service, and connection beyond the game.

Other gifts are rooted in family and legacy. The Hadley Floury Scholarship, created by Alex Floury in honor of his daughter, supports the marching band and celebrates the role of campus involvement in shaping the student experience. In baseball, the 7-88 Scholarship, established by Tim McGillivary, reflects a long-standing connection to the program and reinforces values like discipline, commitment, and service.

For the athletes themselves, the impact is immediate.

Scholarship support can mean fewer hours spent working off campus, more time for studying, and the ability to fully engage in practices, travel, and competition. It can also ease the constant pressure that comes with balancing a demanding schedule.

Some scholarships also carry forward lasting legacies. The Chris Lantto Scholarship honors a former assistant hockey coach whose influence continues to shape the program. The Steve Rost Scholar-Athlete Scholarship will recognize two students each year who demonstrate excellence both academically and athletically, reinforcing the standard that defines Blue Devils Athletics.

Together, these efforts represent more than generosity. They are an investment in the next generation of LTU graduates, leaders, and innovators.
