LTU’s Blue Devil Motorsports to unveil 2023 competition vehicles April 4

SOUTHFIELD—Lawrence Technological University’s Blue Devil Motorsports teams will spend this spring speeding around racetracks and flying high in the sky. And the public will get a chance to see their latest creations at the annual BDM Unveiling event, Tuesday, April 4.

The unveiling begins at 12:15 p.m. in the atrium of LTU’s Buell Building (building 5 at www.ltu.edu/map).

Teams participating in the event, all from LTU’s College of Engineering, are:

• Formula SAE, a competition for student-designed and student-built half-scale Indy-style racing cars. This team will compete against other universities May 17-20 at Michigan International Speedway in Brooklyn, Mich.
• Baja SAE, a competition for student-designed and student-built off-road vehicles. This team will compete May 4-7 in Oshkosh, Wis.
• SAE Formula Electric, a competition for student-designed and student-built electric vehicles. This team will compete twice: May 1-5 in Loudon, N.H., and June 14-17 at Michigan International Speedway.
• SAE Aero Design, in which students designed, build, and fly a remote-controlled, unmanned cargo aircraft. This team will compete April 14-16 in Fort Worth, Texas.
• LTU’s College of Engineering team in the Intelligent Ground Vehicle Competition, an event for autonomous vehicles sponsored by companies and government agencies in the defense community, to be held June 2-5 at Oakland University in Rochester.

LTU has a long history in Formula SAE, a competition organized by SAE International (previously known as the Society of Automotive Engineers) and first held in 1979. The event is held in the spring at several sites around the country; LTU hosted the national event three times in the 1980s. Last year’s LTU team finished third in the nation out of 132 teams for its business presentation.
