SOUTHFIELD—Lawrence Technological University’s Professional Development Center is offering another session of its five-week Leadership Development Certificate course starting April 20.
And staffers in the Detroit City Clerk’s office can tell you—it works.
“I learned so much,” said Michelle Collins, executive administrative assistant to Detroit City Clerk Janice M. Winfrey. “Five of us received an email from our administrative team indicating that we had been selected to participate in this leadership training. I said, ‘Me? I’m not a leader!’ But I was told by my superior that she thought I had potential—she just wanted to enhance it.”
And Collins said the course worked.
“I’ve always had a fear of public speaking,” she said. “But we had to present some of the things we learned in the training at a staff retreat. That was my time to shine, to show that what I learned in the class actually worked, and it did.”
The Leadership Development Certificate course is led by Patricia Castelli, professor in LTU’s College of Business and Information Technology. She has been with Lawrence Tech since 1995 where she teaches leadership, managing global teams, and human resource management. As owner of PAC Productions for three decades, she has trained over 30,000 leaders in a variety of global organizations. Her client list includes General Motors, Whirlpool, IBM, the federal Department of Defense, Blue Cross and Blue Shield, Sara Lee Corp., The American Medical Association, Amway, and 1-800-Flowers.com. Castelli has conducted extensive international research in leadership and has received numerous awards for her teaching and scholarship.
For more information or to register, visit https://www.ltu.edu/pdc/. The cost of the program is $1,800, with a $300 discount for LTU alumni. Class size is limited to 20 people. Classes are held on five consecutive Thursdays from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m., April 20, April 27, May 4, May 11, and May 18.
“I thought it was wonderful,” Collins said of the course. “Patty is excellent at what she does. I just felt like, even though it was only five sessions, we covered so much information, and it impacted me a great deal. I am more productive. I am participating more. And I’ve heard the same thing from the other participants.”
