LTU president to host roundtable on developing talent for Industry 4.0 at Integr8

April 25, 2023

SOUTHFIELD—Lawrence Technological University has become a sponsor of Automation Alley’s Industry 4.0 technologies conference, Integr8, to be held on Tuesday, May 9. And LTU President Tarek Sobh will host a roundtable event covering an important topic for high-tech manufacturing’s future–developing Industry 4.0-capable talent.

The roundtable, “Innovative Pathways to Industry 4.0 Talent,” takes place from 1 to 2:30 p.m. The Integr8 conference will be held at the Suburban Collection Showplace, 46100 Grand River Ave., Novi.

“Innovative pathways to the careers of the future can take many forms,” Sobh said. “Breaking down barriers to education is the first step in creating the Michigan Talent Pipeline, moving from where we are now to where we need to be to meet the challenges of the future.”

The roundtable panel will present perspectives from K-12 education, community colleges, higher education, and industry. Speaking with Sobh in the roundtable session are Alycia Meriweather, deputy superintendent, Detroit Public Schools Community District; Peter Provenzano, chancellor, Oakland Community College; and Christelle Keefer, global product manager for robotics education, ABB Robotics.

Over 70 Integr8 attendees are expected to attend and actively engage in discussion that will provide input useful in developing the I4.0 talent pipeline in a more collaborative and robust way.

LTU President Sobh will also join Carey DeWitt, shareholder at the law firm Butzel Long, for a breakout session on “Hiring and Retaining the Best Talent” from 3 to 3:30 p.m. The session will include key insights and examples on what to look for when hiring top talent and what it takes to retain them in a very competitive market.

Both LTU and the Centrepolis Accelerator, LTU’s on-campus business accelerator focused on manufacturing and physical products, will have display booths at the conference.

Integr8 runs from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. A morning keynote will be presented at 9 a.m. by Thomas Schuelke, president of Fraunhofer USA, a research and development organization working with industry, universities, and state and federal governments. The noon lunch keynote will be given by Heiko Wenczel, director of automotive, user experience, and human-machine interface at Epic Games, developers of the widely used Unreal Engine game design software. (In 2020, LTU’s College of Architecture and Design received a $50,000 grant from Epic Games to develop an Unreal Engine training program and build an Unreal Laboratory at LTU, featuring virtual and augmented reality technologies.) Integr8 also features a 3D printer business pitch competition and other breakout sessions on a wide variety of industry-disruptive technologies.

Registration for the full conference is $199. Use the code INNOVATION for $10 off an All-Access Pass. For more information, visit www.integr8conference.com.
