Welcome to the fall ’25 edition of our CoAD digital newsletter! As my first newsletter since becoming Interim Dean of the College of Architecture and Design, I’m delighted to share some of the exciting things happening in our college. From new programs to new faculty, from new hands-on learning experiences for undergraduate and graduate students to new technologies, CoAD has embraced them all.
In this edition, you’ll meet four full-time faculty members whose teaching styles and portfolios are already impressing and inspiring their students and energizing our thinking around the future of our programs. You’ll learn about a major architectural project in connection with the Bailey Park Neighborhood Organization that will enliven this historic Detroit neighborhood and that demonstrates CoAD’s commitment to community engagement. Our prestigious Distinguished Architecture Alumni Award was presented to Tiffany Brown, one of CoAD and LTU’s shining examples of professional success and meaningful impact, on October 20th.
I’d like to recognize my fellow faculty who, in addition to full-time teaching, have received accolades for their personal creative work. The work of Bilge Nur Saltik, associate professor of product design and owner of design studio Form & Seek, was featured in the September edition of dezeen.com. The story centered around an art and design fair that grew out of ArtClvb, a market network created by Steve Coy, associate professor of graphic design. The fair featured the work of numerous LTU faculty, alumni, and current students. Nur and colleague Sophie Yan, director of interior design and assistant professor of practice, along with other Detroit designers, were cited for their recent installation in Surface magazine. Professor of Architecture Scott Shall and CoAD alumnus and adjunct professor Breck Crandell were honored by both AIA Detroit and AIA Michigan for their collaboration on the design and construction of a sustainable home in the city of Detroit. Congratulations to you all! I am proud to work among these prolific and talented architects and designers.
