Letter From The Dean

As spring tries its best to come to Michigan, the College of Arts and Sciences (CoAS) is in full gear preparing for its arrival with exciting events, achievements, and opportunities for our students. On March 26, from 5 to 6:30 p.m., we welcome Morhaf Al Achkar, M.D., Associate Center Director, Education, Barbara Ann Karmanos Cancer Institute, and Associate Professor, Oncology, Wayne State University, as our 2026 Walker L. Cisler Lecture Series speaker. Dr. Al Achkar will address “Education: The Most Scalable Cancer Intervention We Underfund.On April 4, from noon to 8 p.m., we will host our annual games, esports, and anime expo, LTUX. Finally, on May 9, we send off our 2026 graduates with great congratulations at commencement.

Welcome to the Spring 2026 edition of our e-newsletter! In this edition, you will learn about some of the great things our college has been working on. We’re excited to introduce two new in-demand academic concentrations in the Department of Natural Sciences. You will also hear from Wendy Perkinson, PhD, who shares how CoAS supports our students during their academic journey. You’ll learn about how LTU’s motto, “Theory and Practice,” is alive and well for our media communication students.
