SOUTHFIELD—Lawrence Technological University and the State Champs! Sports Network will host the Michigan High School Football Coaches Association’s annual East-West All-Star Game on Saturday, June 24. Kickoff is at 1 p.m. at LTU’s Blue Devils Stadium, at the intersection of 10 Mile Road, Evergreen Road, and the Lodge Freeway.
Tickets are $10. Parking is $5 at several nearby university lots. See www.ltu.edu/map. Proceeds from both ticket sales and parking will support staging the game.
The all-star game is part of a two-day celebration of the best of high school football. On Friday, June 23, 14 coaches will be inducted into the MHSFCA Hall of Fame. The event takes place at the Detroit Marriott Troy, 200 W. Big Beaver Road in Troy. Tickets are $40 and can be purchased at https://www.mhsfca.com/mhsfca-2023-hof-banquet-induction-ceremony/.
This year’s Hall of Fame inductees and their associated high schools are Kevin Bartz, Edwardsburg; Mark Carlton, Sand Creek; Thomas Arthur Ellinger, Middleville Thornapple Kellogg; Pat Hinkle, Cadillac and Mesick; Craig “Bubbs” Hnatuk, Westland John Glenn and Canton; Joe Hoskins, Detroit Southwestern and Detroit Henry Ford; David J. Mariage, St. Johns; Larry R. Orr, Monroe Catholic Central; Joe Quesnelle, Marine City Cardinal Mooney; Mark Russell, Lowell; Jim Schaak, Grand Rapids West Catholic; Troy Schelke, Harbor Beach; Mike Smith, Lapeer; and Mark Tamminga, Grand Rapids South Christian.
To be eligible for the MHSFCA Hall of Fame, a coach must have 100 or more varsity victories in Michigan or have coached at the junior high, middle school or high school level for 20 or more years. The Hall of Fame is housed at the University of Michigan football stadium, where plaques for each of this year’s inductees will be displayed.
Lawrence Tech restarted its football program in 2017 after a 70-plus-year hiatus. The Blue Devils play in the Mid-States Football Association, a conference affiliated with the National Association for Intercollegiate Athletics. LTU will play five home games this season, with games scheduled on Aug. 26, Sept. 2, Sept. 16, Oct. 7, and Nov. 4.
