Clinical Counselors provide counseling services and educational outreach to currently enrolled students on LTU’s campus. Counselors assist students with a wide range of behavioral, developmental, and mental health concerns in support of personal growth and academic success.
Work is expected to include approximately 60% direct service (counseling and outreach) and 30% indirect service (administrative tasks, planning, consultation, supervision).
Provide counseling services for students at the university, including short-term psychotherapy, group therapy, crisis intervention, and mental health screenings. Experience and previous work with student athlete populations and/or neurodivergent student populations is beneficial. Provide mental health focused workshops and programs to various campus stakeholders (faculty, staff, and/or students). Outreach may consist of planned programming or developed in response to events impacting the campus community. Participate in tabling events to increase awareness of counseling services on campus. Support the department in development of electronic outreach including social media marketing.
Participate in university events which could include: orientation, open houses, convocation, graduation, athletic events, and/or mandatory trainings as needed/required.
Participate in Campus Assessment, Response, and Evaluation (CARE) team when needed to insure student welfare and campus safety.
Response to urgent/emergency situations on campus which can occasionally include day, evening, and weekend hours.
Develop relationships and collaborate with departments across campus including Career Services, Housing, Office of Access and Accommodations, Athletics, Student Success Center, and Academic departments.
Participate in committees as assigned by the Director of Counseling Services on an on-going or as-needed basis.
Participate in Clinical Counseling staff meetings, clinical, and/or employment supervision as needed.
Utilizes counseling center’s electronic health record system for scheduling and documentation.
Completes other duties as assigned.
Master’s degree from an accredited college or university in clinical psychology, counseling, or social work with a limited or full Michigan license in psychology, social work, or counseling.
Candidate will be expected to receive a full/independent Michigan license within 3 years of hire and is expected to maintain licensure for the duration of employment.
1-3 years of clinical counseling experience, preference will be given to those with experience in higher education and university counseling center settings.
Competence in working with multicultural and other diverse populations including international student populations.
Demonstrated ability to work autonomously and collaboratively, strong communication skills, as well as commitment to workplace integrity and professional ethics.
Ability to perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodations.
While acting as a representative of Lawrence Technological University, it is important that the employee be knowledgeable and professional. Communication skills (both oral and written), organizational skills, and the ability to handle changing priorities are essential for success in this position. The position may require evening and some weekends (Saturday or Sunday) to serve the needs of the LTU community.
