Kevin earned an MA in English from Oakland University and his BA in English from the University of Notre Dame. For 28 years he taught language arts and video productions in Royal Oak, West Bloomfield and Southfield Public Schools. He served four years as Humanities Chair for the University of Phoenix’s Detroit Campus and two years as Director of Marketing and Enrollment at the Motion Picture Institute film school in Troy. His hands-on workbook Video Direct was published in 2006 and is still in use by secondary media production programs in over 40 states.

In 2013 Kevin began his freelance videography/photography, live-streaming MMD Productions LLC and has worked with clients including Beaumont Hospital, PPG Industries, the Zekelman Holocaust Memorial Center, Detroit Little Libraries, Shakespeare Royal Oak other professional theater organizations, churches, industry, education and non-profits. His photography can be seen along Woodward Avenue each summer during Shakespeare season and has been featured in Hour Detroit Magazine. He is co-founder and producer of the historical website, podcast and documentary series Digging Detroit which has been featured on cable television and is featured in permanent exhibits at the Detroit Public Library, the Yankee Air Museum and the William F. Banks Museum of Broadcasting.

Kevin is also a regular guide for Detroit History Tours, including Woodlawn Cemetery and Michigan Central Station and is proud to serve as board officer and festival director for the 501c3 Digital Arts Film and Television’s Michigan Student Film Festival–the longest running student film festival in the country. He also is a longtime auxiliary board member for the DIA’s Detroit Film Theatre auxiliary.

Kevin and Patrice are longtime Royal Oak residents, AirBNB hosts, avid travelers and are very proud of their grown children Abby and Aidan—and their Blue Devil architect daughter-in-law Natalie (Miller).

Use Your Cell Phone as a Document Camera in Zoom

  • What you will need to have and do
  • Download the mobile Zoom app (either App Store or Google Play)
  • Have your phone plugged in
  • Set up video stand phone holder

From Computer

Log in and start your Zoom session with participants

From Phone

  • Start the Zoom session on your phone app (suggest setting your phone to “Do not disturb” since your phone screen will be seen in Zoom)
  • Type in the Meeting ID and Join
  • Do not use phone audio option to avoid feedback
  • Select “share content” and “screen” to share your cell phone’s screen in your Zoom session
  • Select “start broadcast” from Zoom app. The home screen of your cell phone is now being shared with your participants.

To use your cell phone as a makeshift document camera

  • Open (swipe to switch apps) and select the camera app on your phone
  • Start in photo mode and aim the camera at whatever materials you would like to share
  • This is where you will have to position what you want to share to get the best view – but you will see ‘how you are doing’ in the main Zoom session.
