Professional Background

Dan Tyrer is a licensed Architect in the State of Michigan and the Design Lead with GMB, focusing on design impacting students and lifelong learners in K-12 and Higher Education. He has studied design throughout his career, acting as design and project architect across a wide range of project types. In his current role at GMB, he is a leader of design mentorship, culture, and quality in support of the colleagues and communities he serves in professional practice.

Beyond his professional roles, Dan explores design through travel, furniture design and fabrication, installations, and photography. He is a graduate of LTU with his Bachelor of Science in Architecture, after which he received his Master of Architecture from the University of Michigan. He has practiced architecture in Southeast and West Michigan, and was previously an adjunct faculty member at LTU.

Dan has been an active member of the American Institute of Architects, including holding the Vice President, President, and Past President positions for the Grand Rapids chapter. Additionally, he has participated in multiple programs including acting as a THRIVE Mentor, assisting the Honor Awards Planning Committee, and jurying multiple Honor Awards programs.

After many years in Grand Rapids, Dan now resides in Ann Arbor, Michigan, with his wife an two children.

Use Your Cell Phone as a Document Camera in Zoom

  • What you will need to have and do
  • Download the mobile Zoom app (either App Store or Google Play)
  • Have your phone plugged in
  • Set up video stand phone holder

From Computer

Log in and start your Zoom session with participants

From Phone

  • Start the Zoom session on your phone app (suggest setting your phone to “Do not disturb” since your phone screen will be seen in Zoom)
  • Type in the Meeting ID and Join
  • Do not use phone audio option to avoid feedback
  • Select “share content” and “screen” to share your cell phone’s screen in your Zoom session
  • Select “start broadcast” from Zoom app. The home screen of your cell phone is now being shared with your participants.

To use your cell phone as a makeshift document camera

  • Open (swipe to switch apps) and select the camera app on your phone
  • Start in photo mode and aim the camera at whatever materials you would like to share
  • This is where you will have to position what you want to share to get the best view – but you will see ‘how you are doing’ in the main Zoom session.
