Director of Corporate and Foundation Relations

Tom most recently served as the Executive Director of Leadership Oakland, metro Detroit’s premier collaborative leadership experience.  He was critical in steering the organization through the COVID pandemic while also adding new components to the leadership curriculum. Prior to Leadership Oakland, Tom served as the Senior Director for Corporate and Foundation Relations for Kettering University in Flint, MI, helping solicit substantial gifts towards the University’s Boldly Forward Campaign.  Tom’s experience in fundraising and nonprofit leadership has spanned over twenty-five years as professional staff, paid consultant, presenter, or volunteer board member.

 

Prior to his nonprofit career and relocating to Michigan, Tom worked in the public finance sector in New York City. As the Senior Budget Analyst for the New York State Comptroller, Tom was responsible for monitoring and oversight of NYC’s capital finances – including the debt and debt service of all of NYCs borrowing entities.   Tom also held a position with the Nassau County Executive’s Office of Management and Budget where he had fiscal oversight of thirteen county departments.

 

Tom received his Master of Public Policy and Public Finance from the Trachtenberg School of Public Policy and Public Administration at The George Washington University and his Bachelor of Science in Sociology from Buffalo State University. 

 

He lives in Rochester Hills with his wife Shani and two children Lily 16 and Han 14. Tom and his family have lived in six states but calls Michigan home.  He enjoys watching his children play ice hockey, cooking with his family, and traveling.

Use Your Cell Phone as a Document Camera in Zoom

  • What you will need to have and do
  • Download the mobile Zoom app (either App Store or Google Play)
  • Have your phone plugged in
  • Set up video stand phone holder

From Computer

Log in and start your Zoom session with participants

From Phone

  • Start the Zoom session on your phone app (suggest setting your phone to “Do not disturb” since your phone screen will be seen in Zoom)
  • Type in the Meeting ID and Join
  • Do not use phone audio option to avoid feedback
  • Select “share content” and “screen” to share your cell phone’s screen in your Zoom session
  • Select “start broadcast” from Zoom app. The home screen of your cell phone is now being shared with your participants.

To use your cell phone as a makeshift document camera

  • Open (swipe to switch apps) and select the camera app on your phone
  • Start in photo mode and aim the camera at whatever materials you would like to share
  • This is where you will have to position what you want to share to get the best view – but you will see ‘how you are doing’ in the main Zoom session.
