Andre
Sandifer
Adjunct Faculty

Andre Sandifer is a designer and self-taught craftsman. He was born and raised in Grand Rapids, Michigan and professionally trained in Architecture. He holds a Master of Architecture from the University of Michigan and Bachelor in Facilities Management from Ferris State University.
My roles range from entrepreneur to designer to fabricator and educator. Most recently, I was Senior Product Designer with Floyd Home, working collaboratively with the product team and the larger executive team to identify creative solutions for the home. This role afforded me the opportunity to lead a creative process and implement a culture around design that specifically bridged and connected research, engineering, manufacturing, and marketing. This work brought multiple products to market that launched successfully.
As co-founder of Ali Sandifer and founder of Sandifer Studio, a designer and the Director of Fabrication. My academic training in architecture opened a door to my own self-training as a craftsman. This trajectory forged a greater understanding of how design and fabrication can and must coexist. Additionally, I was a part of a cohort at The University of Michigan, School of Architecture Design and Research that focused on collapsing digital technology and material systems into a clear framework.
My research focuses on a computational design process, a set of procedures consisting of finite number of rules with define a succession of operations for sole purpose of solving a problem. By using an analog algorithm approach, working with a set of sequence of instructions to investigate special and material explorations.
