Professional Background

Research
Charlene’s research explores the intersections of visual communication, design education, and creative practice. She is particularly interested in how design can foster cross-disciplinary collaboration, build community engagement, and serve as a catalyst for cultural and social impact. Her work often investigates the integration of traditional print processes with emerging digital technologies, highlighting how designers can balance craft with innovation in a rapidly changing creative industry.

Work
Charlene brings over a decade of professional experience as a Creative Director in the printing and communications industry, where she led cross-functional teams in brand development, design strategy, and large-scale production. She has collaborated with clients across corporate, nonprofit, and arts sectors, creating visual identities, campaigns, and design systems that elevate storytelling and user experience. In addition to her industry work, Charlene has taught as an Adjunct Faculty member in Graphic Design, guiding students in foundational design principles, typography, and visual problem-solving through studio-based learning.

Interests
Her teaching and creative practice are grounded in a passion for design as both a professional discipline and a form of cultural literacy. Charlene is interested in how design education can empower students to think critically, communicate effectively, and design responsibly. She enjoys mentoring emerging designers and engaging in projects that connect art, design, and community well-being.

Use Your Cell Phone as a Document Camera in Zoom

  • What you will need to have and do
  • Download the mobile Zoom app (either App Store or Google Play)
  • Have your phone plugged in
  • Set up video stand phone holder

From Computer

Log in and start your Zoom session with participants

From Phone

  • Start the Zoom session on your phone app (suggest setting your phone to “Do not disturb” since your phone screen will be seen in Zoom)
  • Type in the Meeting ID and Join
  • Do not use phone audio option to avoid feedback
  • Select “share content” and “screen” to share your cell phone’s screen in your Zoom session
  • Select “start broadcast” from Zoom app. The home screen of your cell phone is now being shared with your participants.

To use your cell phone as a makeshift document camera

  • Open (swipe to switch apps) and select the camera app on your phone
  • Start in photo mode and aim the camera at whatever materials you would like to share
  • This is where you will have to position what you want to share to get the best view – but you will see ‘how you are doing’ in the main Zoom session.
