Adjunct Faculty

“Tryst Red is a Detroit-based artist (b. 1994). Her practice focuses on personal experiences made shared sensations. She investigates the relationships individuals have with themselves and their environments — this includes exploring the physical and mental connections between a body and memory. Tryst spent most of her childhood traveling and chasing the feeling of home. She has been photographing analog and digital for over 11 years, with an emphasis on studio lighting and formal portraiture. Her process starts with an invitation to participate, in these spaces, the camera is more than a tool – it operates with sentience. Her work emphasizes collaboration, whether it be social practice — focusing on the connection between the artist and the subject, or immersive installation, utilizing projection and the mirror, encouraging the audience to sit with feelings of familiarity.

Tryst graduated from Wayne State University in 2020 with a BFA in photography and art history. Her solo exhibition, Skin & Scales, was held at Tom Gibbs Studio in Ferndale, MI, in August 2021. In 2023, Tryst graduated with her MFA from Cranbrook Academy of Art.”
