Professional Background

Mani Karami is a BIM-focused architectural designer with a Master of Architecture from the University of Florida and more than eight years of experience across commercial, residential, aviation, and justice projects. He currently works at Dewberry, a nationally recognized architecture and engineering firm, where he specializes in BIM-based design documentation, multidisciplinary coordination, and digital modeling using Revit, Rhino, AutoCAD, and SketchUp. His professional background includes managing BIM workflows and construction documents involving architectural, mechanical, and plumbing systems, and contributing to projects in California, Florida, and Hawaii as a remote BIM designer.
In addition to his professional practice, Mani is teaching as a lecturer at the University of Florida, leading digital architecture and Building Information Modeling (BIM) courses of different class sizes and supervising graduate teaching assistants. His teaching and professional work are grounded in design technology, digital workflows, and collaborative problem-solving.
Mani’s approach blends research-driven design with hands-on digital fabrication and technical coordination. His graduate thesis explored kinetic architecture and algal biofuel systems through performance-driven façade research, reflecting his commitment to bridging conceptual design with technological innovation. He is passionate about solving complex design challenges, advancing integrated digital processes, and contributing to collaborative project environments.

Use Your Cell Phone as a Document Camera in Zoom

  • What you will need to have and do
  • Download the mobile Zoom app (either App Store or Google Play)
  • Have your phone plugged in
  • Set up video stand phone holder

From Computer

Log in and start your Zoom session with participants

From Phone

  • Start the Zoom session on your phone app (suggest setting your phone to “Do not disturb” since your phone screen will be seen in Zoom)
  • Type in the Meeting ID and Join
  • Do not use phone audio option to avoid feedback
  • Select “share content” and “screen” to share your cell phone’s screen in your Zoom session
  • Select “start broadcast” from Zoom app. The home screen of your cell phone is now being shared with your participants.

To use your cell phone as a makeshift document camera

  • Open (swipe to switch apps) and select the camera app on your phone
  • Start in photo mode and aim the camera at whatever materials you would like to share
  • This is where you will have to position what you want to share to get the best view – but you will see ‘how you are doing’ in the main Zoom session.
