Stefanie
Janes
Director of Student Success

Stefanie Janes, MA, LPC is the inaugural Director of Student Success in the Zaven Margosian Student Success Center (SSC) where she provides visionary leadership for holistic academic advising & coaching, tutoring services, testing programs and retention initiatives. In this role, Stefanie collaborates across campus to ensure the SSC is a welcoming and inclusive hub for all students to receive academic support outside of the classroom. Using her expertise in counseling and student development, Stefanie drives change based on current research and data.

Stefanie came to LTU in Fall 2015 after receiving a Master’s Degree in Counseling with a focus in Student Affairs from Oakland University. She was an academic advisor in the College of Business and Information Technology at LTU for eight years where she guided undergraduate and graduate students from orientation to graduation. It was through this experience that she gained a first-hand understanding of LTU’s student population and their needs by creating a relationship with each individual.

Before working in higher education, Stefanie served three terms in AmeriCorps, where she worked on community outreach and development initiatives in various Southeast Michigan community organizations focused on literacy, homelessness and food security. Her background in social justice influences Stefanie’s holistic counseling and advising philosophy, appreciating that students come from diverse backgrounds, thus affecting their experience as a student.

Stefanie is a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) through the State of Michigan. She is a member of the National Academic Advising Association (NACADA) and Michigan Academic Advising Association (MIACADA). She also holds a Bachelor of Science in Human Resource Development with a minor in Employment and Labor Relations from Oakland University.
