Associate Professor

Professor Faoro is an Associate Professor in the Department of Architecture. He teaches and coordinates the structural systems courses in the Department of Architecture and teaches upper-division comprehensive and capstone studios in the senior year. His students have received awards for their work and presented research at national conferences.  He has lectured, presented, and published multiple papers on architecture and sustainability and co-authored a section of a monograph on research in professional ethics in architecture. He has co-authored research in applied and professional ethics. His interests involve the use of technology in education and assessment methodologies, energy conservation, bio-climatic design, building simulation, and buildings systems integration.  His students have won seven ASHRAE international competition awards in integrated sustainable building design categories. He is a contributor to the ASHRAE Green Guide section on architecture. He is a paper reviewer for the Architectural Resources Centers Consortium (ARCC) and TAD a  journal on technology and research in architecture.  He has served as an editor for five university-based publications and booklets on urban design and architecture. He has been a founder and committee member of the USGBC Detroit student Design Competition.

His civic service work involves Board service to  Churches United for the Homeless, in Moorhead, MN, The Eastside Emergency Center in Detroit, MI, The Society of St. Vincent de Paul, and The Journey to Housing Transitional Housing Program in western Wayne county. He organized and participated in the AIA Search for Shelter Program in Fargo Moorhead and serves on the Gregor and Elizabeth Affleck (Usonian) House Renovation Council. He is a recipient of numerous awards for service to the university and civic organizations and is the former Interim Department Chair of Architecture at Lawrence Tech.

He holds a B. Arch degree from the University of Illinois at Chicago (1981) with distinction in design, and a recipient of the AIA Henry Adams Medal and Certificate, and a Masters of Architecture in Urban Design (MAUD) from Harvard University (1983)  and studied abroad at the  Unité pédagogique d’architecture numéro 3 in France in Versailles (1980).  He has been fortunate to work at Skidmore Owings and Merrill, Harry Weese and Associates, and Perkins and Will in Chicago as a student and intern. He has been privileged to serve as a faculty member at multiple state and private universities.

Use Your Cell Phone as a Document Camera in Zoom

  • What you will need to have and do
  • Download the mobile Zoom app (either App Store or Google Play)
  • Have your phone plugged in
  • Set up video stand phone holder

From Computer

Log in and start your Zoom session with participants

From Phone

  • Start the Zoom session on your phone app (suggest setting your phone to “Do not disturb” since your phone screen will be seen in Zoom)
  • Type in the Meeting ID and Join
  • Do not use phone audio option to avoid feedback
  • Select “share content” and “screen” to share your cell phone’s screen in your Zoom session
  • Select “start broadcast” from Zoom app. The home screen of your cell phone is now being shared with your participants.

To use your cell phone as a makeshift document camera

  • Open (swipe to switch apps) and select the camera app on your phone
  • Start in photo mode and aim the camera at whatever materials you would like to share
  • This is where you will have to position what you want to share to get the best view – but you will see ‘how you are doing’ in the main Zoom session.
