Assistant Professor of Practice

El-Bathy received his BS in Business Administration from Cairo University, his Post-Bachler degree in Computer Science from Wayne State, his MS in Computer Science from Wayne State University, and completed all the course-work and the proficiency exam of the Ph.D. from Wayne State University. Professor El-Bathy has strong industrial experience from multiple industrial organizations. He provided leadership in applying and aligning Information Technology to business strategies, goals, and needs. Guided in the selection, development, and deployment of information technology (IT) resources and solutions. Professor El-Bathy is an active member of the IEEE and ACM.

Research Interest

My research interests lie in the area of devise and application of new concepts, techniques, and paradigms of software engineering in the development of intelligent distributed systems with information retrieval and data warehousing.

Lawrence Technological University

  • Effectively employed the Learning Management System, Blackboard eLearning Platform, in the design and implementation of several online courses for undergraduate and graduate curriculum including Comparative Programming Languages, Computer Architecture, and Assembly Language, Operating Systems, Introduction to Distributed Computing, and Advanced Distributed Computing.
  • Migrated several online courses from Blackboard eLearning platform to CANVAS eLearning platform.
  • Revised and updated course materials for several courses including Comparative Programming Languages, Computer Architecture, and Assembly Language, Operating Systems, Introduction to Distributed Computing, and Advanced Distributed Computing.

Lake Trust Credit Union – Michigan

  • Designed the organizational infrastructure of a newly developed IT department to fully support the long term growth and expansion of $3.0 billion organization.
  • Conducted comprehensive industry technology analysis to provide principals with a strategic plan for a company-wide technology upgrade. The plan was developed and implemented.
  • Developed, implemented, and maintained a Cybersecurity program that provided better protection to the organization assets and strengthened the organization’s reputation. The program included: cybersecurity governance and risk management; cybersecurity risk assessment; technical controls; incident response planning; vendor management; staff training; cyber intelligence and information sharing; and cyber insurance.
  • Identified various critical business processes. Formulated and led implementation projects, which resulted in improved operational efficiencies and estimated cost savings of over $240,500. Such projects included ATM network migration and upgrade, Check 21 Branch Capture, and telecom reduction and billing consolidation.
  • Created a consolidated data warehouse that contains data drawn from several databases maintained by (deferent) business units together with historical and summary information.
  • Developed several decision support applications in which current and historical data are comprehensively analyzed and explored to identify useful trends and create summaries of the data, to support high-level decision making.
  • Designed and implemented a reliable, efficient, and secured Wide Area Network (WAN) infrastructure utilizing Multi-Protocol Label Switching (MPLS) technology to interconnect 25-Branch Local Area Networks (LANs) and 42 ATM machines.
  • Played a leadership role in the selection and implementation of the IP Telephony technology within the organization to develop the organization’s Unified Messaging System. The project resulted in the enhancement of business processes, member/customer services, and a yearly cost savings of over $80,000.
  • Developed a strategic plan to migrate and consolidate multiple data centers into a
  • Designed and implemented a strategic Disaster Recovery Plan that provided operational recovery within hours in the event of various applications, databases or system failures. The plan included the building of a Hot Site facility that mirrors the credit union’s production environment. The plan eliminated the need for a hosted disaster recovery solution at an estimated annual cost of $110,000.00.
  • Participated in the integration of the Huron River Financial information technology infrastructure, core financial systems, and ancillary services/applications within Detroit Edison Credit Union’s IT environment. The merger process was completed efficiently and without interruption to member services.
  • Negotiated the cost-effective purchase and lease of hardware upgrades including servers, desktops, hubs, routers, and peripherals resulting in the effective use of IT investments
  • Instituted an Intranet Committee (IT, Members/Customers Services, Marketing, HR, and Lending Departments) to achieve productivity and effective use of the enterprise Network and creation of new services.
  • Established IT policies, standards, procedures for the organization that support efficient operations and effective business operations

Use Your Cell Phone as a Document Camera in Zoom

  • What you will need to have and do
  • Download the mobile Zoom app (either App Store or Google Play)
  • Have your phone plugged in
  • Set up video stand phone holder

From Computer

Log in and start your Zoom session with participants

From Phone

  • Start the Zoom session on your phone app (suggest setting your phone to “Do not disturb” since your phone screen will be seen in Zoom)
  • Type in the Meeting ID and Join
  • Do not use phone audio option to avoid feedback
  • Select “share content” and “screen” to share your cell phone’s screen in your Zoom session
  • Select “start broadcast” from Zoom app. The home screen of your cell phone is now being shared with your participants.

To use your cell phone as a makeshift document camera

  • Open (swipe to switch apps) and select the camera app on your phone
  • Start in photo mode and aim the camera at whatever materials you would like to share
  • This is where you will have to position what you want to share to get the best view – but you will see ‘how you are doing’ in the main Zoom session.
