DeWys
Director of Institutional Initiatives & Grants

Amy DeWys has a B.A. (Calvin College) in Interdisciplinary Studies and a M.A.
(University of Iowa) in Anthropology (Specialization–Museum Studies). She has
completed Ph.D. course work (University of Mississippi) in Educational Leadership.
She is a Senior Adjunct Instructor and has been teaching for Henry Ford College for
over 20 years. Amy has also taught a Museum Education Internship class (University of
Michigan, Dearborn). She started her career as Education Curator at the University of
Mississippi for 5 years and then went on to act as the Director of Education for the
Detroit Historical Museums for 8 years. With over 36 years of experience in nonprofits,
Amy has worked with the Remington Group, Maud Lyon & Associates and several other
nonprofit consulting services as well as establishing her own ASA Consulting for over 14
years. Her specialties include fund development, educational programming, volunteer
management and membership.
She has additionally worked for the Detroit Public Schools Foundation as the Director of
Development for four years, Director of Development & Communications for Big
Brothers Big Sisters of Southeast Michigan for a year and since April 2022 she has
worked as a part-time and full-time employee at Lawrence Technological University.
She has procured funding from a variety of sources including the Ford Foundation, the
Kresge Foundation, the Kellogg Foundation, the Hearst Foundations, and mostly
recently was directly responsible for the coordination of a $1.7M proposal to the United
States Health Resources & Services Administration which was awarded in June 2024 to
LTU’s College of Health Sciences Program Assistant M.S Program. In addition, Amy has
sat on a number of boards, committees and grant review panels including Grosse Pointe
Historical Society, Michigan Humanities Council, the U.S. Department of Education and
the Michigan Council for Arts and Cultural Affairs. She has a passion for education,
learning and youth!

Use Your Cell Phone as a Document Camera in Zoom

  • What you will need to have and do
  • Download the mobile Zoom app (either App Store or Google Play)
  • Have your phone plugged in
  • Set up video stand phone holder

From Computer

Log in and start your Zoom session with participants

From Phone

  • Start the Zoom session on your phone app (suggest setting your phone to “Do not disturb” since your phone screen will be seen in Zoom)
  • Type in the Meeting ID and Join
  • Do not use phone audio option to avoid feedback
  • Select “share content” and “screen” to share your cell phone’s screen in your Zoom session
  • Select “start broadcast” from Zoom app. The home screen of your cell phone is now being shared with your participants.

To use your cell phone as a makeshift document camera

  • Open (swipe to switch apps) and select the camera app on your phone
  • Start in photo mode and aim the camera at whatever materials you would like to share
  • This is where you will have to position what you want to share to get the best view – but you will see ‘how you are doing’ in the main Zoom session.
