Scott earned his BA in English Honors and Film from Wayne State University, his MA in the Humanities from the University of Chicago, and his PhD in English from Wayne State University with a concentration in Literary and Cultural Studies. The title of his dissertation is “Property Value(s): Race, Class, and Political Economy in Narratives of the Single-Family House and Lot.” Scott’s research and writing is focused on neighborhoods, cities, suburbs, and “frontiers” and exploring the unique access that literary and cultural texts provide to human lives and experiences in these spaces, places, and landscapes.
Nothing conveys a sense of what guides Scott’s work better than the following words of Eugene V. Debs: “As long as there is a lower class, I am in it. As long as there is a criminal element, I’m of it. As long as there is a soul in prison, I am not free.”
