Laurin Aman (she/they) is an architectural researcher, designer, and fabricator who is passionate about crafting materials through rigorous prototyping practices that engage digital technologies. They are a Research Assistant and Teaching Aide at The University of Michigan’s Taubman College of Architecture and Urban Planning. They also work for *Alibi Studio based in Detroit.
As a graduate of the M.S. Digital and Material Technology program at The University of Michigan, Laurin received a Citizenship Award for collaborative work with the Ann Arbor Center for Independent Living.
Laurin previously worked for two NYC-based material companies, designing custom materials and advancing sustainability initiatives. They eventually managed a customs lab department, which developed custom-made materials from design conception to final production for specific built environments.
Their current material palette across a range of projects includes: woven textiles, glass, starch-based bioplastics, sunlight, and plants.
