Will received his Bachelor of Landscape Design from the University of Michigan in 1971, and began teaching at Lawrence Technological University (formerly Lawrence Institute of Technology) in 1970, teaching Site Design and Environmental Issues throughout his career as Professor.

Will was awarded Emeritus Professor status in 2014 upon his retirement.
