Katelyn Watson is an E.I.T., CDT, project engineer at Asphalt Specialists, Inc., Pontiac, Mich.
My master’s degree experience at LTU related directly to my career. In coursework, I had the opportunity to specialize in transportation and geotechnical, allowing me to dive into subject matter correlated to my specific job. The relationships I built with my adjunct professors provide me a professional network that I continue to consult.
Javier Alvarez Rodilla, P.E. is a Structural Engineer E3 at Ghafari Associates, Dearborn, Mich.
I was introduced to civil engineering when I was just a kid by my father, who is a civil engineer himself. Growing up, watching him work on numerous projects and going to site visits with him caught my attention. Later on, I began my bachelor of science in civil engineering at Lawrence Tech., and my first class with Dr. (Keith) Kowalkowski sparked my passion for structural engineering. The fact that he was always enthusiastic during his lectures, and that I was always challenged to give my best, encouraged me to pursue my master's degree at Lawrence Tech. While working on my master’s, I also worked with Dr. Kowalkowski as a graduate research scholar. This helped me get two publications in engineering journals and opened many doors and new opportunities.
