Empowering Students to Thrive

Through Empathy, Strategy, and Support, Lisa Henry Helps Health Sciences Students Turn Challenges Into Growth

When students in Lawrence Technological University’s College of Health Sciences begin to question their path, Lisa Henry, who is a CoHS Student Services Advisor, is often the voice that helps them find their way forward.

With a calm presence and a deep understanding of what it takes to succeed in demanding academic programs, she transforms uncertainty into direction and hesitation into confidence. For Henry, academic advising is more than course schedules. It’s about unlocking potential.

“I began my career working with incoming engineering students,” she said. “That experience showed me how powerful it can be to support students as they transition into challenging programs.”

Drawn to the purpose-driven nature of health and STEM fields, Henry found her calling in guiding students preparing for careers that directly impact the lives of others. “Health sciences students are incredibly motivated,” she said. “It’s rewarding to help them navigate such meaningful paths.”

Advising with Empathy and Accountability

Henry’s approach blends compassion with structure.

“Supporting students in healthcare and the sciences means understanding both the academic pressures and personal challenges they face,” she said. “My focus is on relationship building, early intervention, and resilience.”

She encourages open dialogue and helps students balance academic goals with personal well-being. She believes academic success and personal health are deeply connected. When students feel heard and supported, they’re more confident and capable.

Moments That Matter

Henry finds the most fulfillment in seeing students grow. She recalls one student who once doubted his place in the sciences. Through regular check-ins and encouragement, she helped him break goals into manageable steps and recognize his strengths. He not only regained confidence but went on to become a student leader and successful professional.

“Seeing that transformation reaffirmed for me the power of personalized advising,” Henry said. “Confidence grows when students feel supported and capable.”

Building a Culture of Support and Innovation

Henry views advising as central to both student and program success.

“We’re building a collaborative environment where students can connect their strengths, goals, and experiences,” she said. “That connection drives retention, growth, and real-world readiness.”

She’s particularly excited about students exploring emerging healthcare careers that combine technology, data, and patient care. “It’s inspiring to see our students prepare for fields that will shape the future of healthcare,” she said.

A Quiet Force for Student Success

Though she describes herself as “behind the scenes,” Henry’s impact is unmistakable.

“I love helping people succeed, often in ways that aren’t immediately visible,” she said. “Sometimes, a small moment of encouragement can change the way a student sees themselves. That’s why I do what I do.”
