Siemens PLM Software Training

Lawrence Technological University has received an in-kind software grant from Siemens PLM Software with a commercial value of $210 million.

In-kind grants are contributions of goods and services, in this case software providing LTU students access to the same technology that companies around the world depend on every day to develop innovative products in a wide variety of industries including automotive, aerospace, machinery, shipbuilding, high-tech electronics and many more. Graduates with this type of software training are highly recruited candidates for advanced technology jobs.

Siemens NX is the most recognized and used Product Lifecycle Management software in industry today. It transforms the entire product development process with high-performance, integrated solutions for design, modeling, simulation, and visualization supporting every aspect of product development, from concept through engineering and manufacturing. Modules include:

  • CAD (Computer-Aided Design)
Creates two-or three-dimensional (2D or 3D) graphical representations of physical objects. It’s used to design physical products in a wide range of industries, where the software performs calculations for determining an optimum shape and size for a variety of product and industrial design applications.
  • CAE (Computer-Aided Engineering)
Integrates analysis modeling with simulation solutions reducing the time engineers spend preparing simulation models. It delivers all the advanced meshing, boundary conditions and solver interfaces that are needed to conduct high-end analysis.
  • CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics)
Provides advanced solutions for conceptual design, 3D modeling, finite element analysis, innovation, and documentation. It uses Multidiscipline simulation for structural, motion, thermal, flow, multi-physics and optimization applications.
  • Tecnomatix
Supports LTU Robotics Engineering and includes Assembly Planning and Validation, Robotics and Automation Planning, Plant Design and Optimization, Quality Management, Production Management, and Manufacturing Process Management.

Self-guided training for Siemens software is available to the LTU community through Learning Advantage:

Use Your Cell Phone as a Document Camera in Zoom

  • What you will need to have and do
  • Download the mobile Zoom app (either App Store or Google Play)
  • Have your phone plugged in
  • Set up video stand phone holder

From Computer

Log in and start your Zoom session with participants

From Phone

  • Start the Zoom session on your phone app (suggest setting your phone to “Do not disturb” since your phone screen will be seen in Zoom)
  • Type in the Meeting ID and Join
  • Do not use phone audio option to avoid feedback
  • Select “share content” and “screen” to share your cell phone’s screen in your Zoom session
  • Select “start broadcast” from Zoom app. The home screen of your cell phone is now being shared with your participants.

To use your cell phone as a makeshift document camera

  • Open (swipe to switch apps) and select the camera app on your phone
  • Start in photo mode and aim the camera at whatever materials you would like to share
  • This is where you will have to position what you want to share to get the best view – but you will see ‘how you are doing’ in the main Zoom session.
