This course introduces fundamental perfusion theories and related equipment required to perform basic perfusion techniques. The primary objective is for students to master the knowledge necessary to competently and safely conduct cardiovascular perfusion techniques. Safe performance in the laboratory and demonstrate functional capacity leading to each student’s “preparation for clinical-practice.” Students will utilize the CCS simulation lab to practice various techniques and demonstrate competencies. The course also includes one-day clinical visits to local hospitals where students will observe clinical cases under the supervision of clinical perfusionists and report their observations in a journal.
