Optional Practical Training (OPT)
OPT is a 12-month work authorization for F-1 students to gain practical experience in their field of study. Students can apply up to 90 days before their program end date, and it is recommended to apply early to avoid delays. You don’t need a job offer to apply, but you cannot be unemployed for more than 90 days during the 12-month period.
Once approved by USCIS, OPT allows you to work full-time or part-time, as long as the work is directly related to your field of study. This is an excellent opportunity to gain hands-on experience after graduation.
