Southfield

The City of Southfield is situated in a 26 square mile radius and is considered a premier business address in Michigan. Southfield is home to over 10,000 businesses including more than 100 “Fortune 500” companies. Southfield will provide you with a wide variety of options for hands-on industry experience through internships and part-time jobs. Lear, Federal Mogul, Denso International, Plante Moran, Stefanini, Barton Malow, and Comau are just to name a few. Their proximity to LTU’s campus allows you to pursue internships, jobs, and take classes at the same time.

For eclectic eaters, you can choose from the many restaurants and cafes covering all kinds of cuisines and tasty options for all taste buds ranging from Asian, Italian, and African-American to Middle Eastern, Jewish and continental.

Do you enjoy the outdoors? If so, Southfield offers more than 20 beautiful parks, nature preserves, golf courses, and more than 50 miles of cycling, biking and nature trails.

The Windy City isn’t far away. If you want to go out of town, a relaxing train ride to Chicago is just four hours.

LTU is Only 20 Miles from Downtown Detroit!

  • Big cities are melting pots of cultures. When you attend a college in or near an urban location, you’ll be exposed to cultural diversity to a greater extent. This can help you be better prepared for a career anywhere in the world.
  • Studying in an urban college can give you easier access to career opportunities such as internships and part-time employment.
  • Doing an internship at a top company can open doors for you after you graduate. With numerous company headquarters located in the Detroit area, it will be easier for you to network and make connections with people who are in power.
  • According to Steven Johnson’s book,  Where Good Ideas Come From , when you have regular access to a big city, idea generation happens at a faster rate due to the volume of exposure to various different types of people.

» Student Services and Advising

Purpose: The CoBIT Student Success Team builds relationships with students to support their well-being and development, help them explore personal, academic, and professional aspirations, and plan their unique path to graduation in a welcoming and inclusive space.

Goal: Our goal is to move beyond transactional advising by educating students about their degree requirements, empowering them to take ownership of their academic career, and coaching them through discovering solutions tailored to their individual success.

Every student has an advisor, every step of the way.

Career-readiness starts early. As your advisors, we take great pride in helping you identify your goals as a student, develop an academic plan to align with your interests, and choose balanced classes for your future success. We also make sure you have plenty of opportunities to develop an effective resume, navigate your way through internships, and master the art of networking with industry professionals.

What else do advisors do?

  • Provide a safe, inclusive, and supportive space where students have the opportunity to grow.
  • Guide students in identifying opportunities to develop their own academic and professional goals.
  • Discuss time management, study strategies, and other academic skills.
  • Make referrals to appropriate campus resources and offices to foster student success.
