SOUTHFIELD—An award-winning business journalist who has studied the inner workings of curiosity, innovation, and creativity will serve as a speaker at Lawrence Technological University’s 95th Commencement Exercises on Saturday, Dec. 2.
Charles Fishman, New York Times bestselling author and three-time winner of the prestigious Gerald Loeb Award for Distinguished Business and Financial Journalism, will speak during the 10 a.m. ceremony at LTU’s Don Ridler Field House.
A renowned journalist who is drawn to the concept of innovation on demand, Fishman has dedicated his career to in-depth research and compelling storytelling to reshape and shift perspectives on our understanding of concepts that promote innovative thinking. After being part of the Washington Post’s coverage of the Space Shuttle Challenger, he became intrigued by NASA’s management model that provides a paradigm for overcoming challenges without stifling creativity and instead encourages it. His work has explored innovation, creativity, curiosity, and perseverance in several fields. Besides the Washington Post, his work has also appeared in the Orlando Sentinel, the Raleigh (N.C.) News and Observer, and Fast Company magazine.
Fishman is the author of “The Walmart Effect: How the World’s Most Powerful Company Really Works—and How It’s Transforming the American Economy;” “The Big Thirst: The Secret Life and Turbulent Future of Water;” and “One Giant Leap: The Impossible Mission that Flew Us to the Moon.” He is also co-author of “A Curious Mind: The Secret to a Bigger Life,” a book about how an attitude of curiosity can improve every person’s life, with Hollywood producer Brian Grazer.
