Meet the College of Arts and Sciences Student Services Advisor Dr. Wendy Perkinson

As your Student Services and Success Advisor, I’m here to guide, support, and empower you. My goal is to help you successfully navigate your academic journey, connect with resources, and achieve your personal and educational goals.

Student Success Stories

Our students share what helps them stay motivated and succeed.

Maya Freeman, Sophomore

“As a transfer student-athlete, I’ve learned that success comes from planning ahead and finding what truly works for you. What helps others may not fit your style.

Remember why you’re here, stay focused on your goals, and use every resource available to make the most of your experience.”

Arline Lile, Junior

“I’m involved with the LTU Black Student Union and the National Society of Black Engineers, and one of the biggest strategies that’s helped me succeed is time management. I don’t try to cram material when a due date or test is approaching, but instead I plan ahead so I can really understand the content. My advice to others students is to take advantage of the library. They have quiet spaces to work and offer tutoring, and I’ve personally gone there to get help. The staff genuinely want you to learn and succeed. Knowing when to ask for help an actually getting it is essential to your success.”

Maria Trevino Nunez, Junior

“As a student-athlete, time management is essential. I map out my entire week before it begins, stay organized, and break assignments into smaller tasks so balancing classes, practices, games, and travel feels manageable. If you’re struggling, remember it’s normal. Reach out to professors, advisors, coaches, or friends.

Taking care of yourself, giving yourself grace, and leaning on your support system makes all the difference. You don’t have to navigate college alone.”

Zachary Kaechle, Junior

“Being organized has been key to my success. I schedule everything in my Google Calendar including my classes, work, and commitments, so I always know what my week looks like and can set realistic expectations. Building relationships with professors has opened countless doors; they have advice, connections, and genuinely want to help you grow. Talk to people in your major, start conversations, and form study groups. College is a small community, and many people want to connect if you take the first step.

For anyone struggling: it does get better. The transition can feel overwhelming, but you’re not alone. Be proud of your effort, reach out for support, and use the resources around you, from counseling services to your professors”
