Humanities, Social Sciences, and Communication

Why Study Humanities at LTU?

At Lawrence Tech, we prioritize teaching and student success above all else. Our faculty are dedicated to educating, mentoring, and guiding students on their academic and professional journeys. In the Department of Humanities, Social Sciences, and Communication, youโ€™ll experience personalized support and unparalleled opportunities to thrive.

EXPERIENCE what itโ€™s like to be a name, not a number.

With class sizes of 20 students or less, youโ€™ll never get lost in the crowd. Your professors will know your name long before the end of your freshman year. Youโ€™ll receive academic and career guidance from a faculty member in your discipline, ensuring your goals are always a priority.

LEARN from dedicated faculty.

Your courses and labs will always be taught by expert teaching faculty, never graduate student teaching assistants. In your classes, studios, and labs, youโ€™ll gain practical experience with the methods, ideas, and technologies shaping the worlds of psychology, media communication, and human society.

PREPARE for a great career.

Internships, leadership opportunities, and hands-on coursework will help prepare you with the professional skills you need for careers in media, psychology, or industry. Whether your next step is graduate school, professional school, or your first job, LTU Humanities, Social Sciences, and Communication will set you up to succeed.

ENGAGE in cutting-edge research projects.

All Humanities, Social Science, and Communication students have the opportunity to participate in psychological research projects, client-based media production, or interdisciplinary research projects. In addition to a senior research or production experience, you can also participate in course-based research experiences or the Quest undergraduate student researcher program as early as freshman year.

Research and Media Production

Students in the Humanities, Social Science, and Communication programs are immersed in an active community of scholars and media professionals exploring our world through cutting-edge techniques of research and production. In our psychology labs, students can join our internationally recognized faculty in investigating the role of sensation and perception, studying such topics as VR/AR environments or the use of language in social media. In our work in the social sciences and humanities, students collaborate with faculty to gather data on public policy or examine the ethics of computation. Our media faculty take students into the studio and the field to shoot original educational documentaries or investigate the way media supports local communities. Students have a chance to share their work through LTUโ€™s Research Day symposium, national and regional conferences, publications in scholarly journals, or in media broadcasts.

In the Department of Humanities, Social Sciences, and Communication, every student has the opportunity to complete a senior project under the guidance of a dedicated faculty mentor. In addition, students have the option to participate in internships, course-based research experiences, and our Quest undergraduate student researcher program as soon as their freshman year.
