The Wave Health and Sports Center Project Info

Major

Architecture [BS]

Description

The Wave Health and Sports Center is proposed to be in downtown Sault Ste Marie, MI. This proposed site is located on the St Marys River waterfront in downtown Sault Ste Marie. In addition, this site neighbors Pullar Stadium and the Museum Ship Valley Camp, while also sharing a portion of the site with the Famous Soo Locks Boat Tours building. The proposed building will be embedded in roughly the middle of the site, with the lower level of the building partially embedded in the site and the main lobby being located on the upper level. In addition, the site will host two new parking lots that will connect the neighboring buildings with The Wave Health and Sports Center. Since this proposed building is located right on the waterfront, the design of the building aims to create a wave-like roof and utilizes water-like colors on the facade. The proposed additions of a large splash pad, that turns into a hockey rink in the winter, a concession stand, restrooms, and a sidewalk network, will help visitors of The Wave enjoy the water. Inside, the building is proposed to include a large gymnasium and natatorium. It will also boast a climbing wall, cafe, fitness and weight areas, multi-purpose fitness rooms, a care suite, classrooms, and a large track. The Wave Health and Sports Center aims to provide the community with a new place for gathering, learning, enjoyment, and exercise.
