Courtney McGarity is a senior in the Architecture program. His focus in design is around creating spaces that are understandable to all people through contemporary interpretations of classical ordering principles easily recognizable while remaining practical yet elegant. His belief in practicality allows for a more seamless union of all the stake holders responsible for envisioning, building, and occupying a built environment.

DescriptionSoo Health and Sport Hall is a community hub located in Sault Ste. Marie, MI. It centers on providing the locals with a unique environment to engage in physical activity year-round. The architectural form begins with a swept arched truss profile that is intercepted by a central double height mass. This central mass has its form driven by an indoor track on the second floor, allowing the soft curve of the track to reach out into the landscape propped up by a colonnade of exposed steel columns. This formal gesture alludes to the formal ordering principles of the program that drives the layout of spaces. There is a central space with two additional programming elements flanking either side, thus creating an east and west wing condition.
